This is a brand new course about modern creative strategy and how to increase the influence of strategy in modern agencies. It’s for senior strategists (Strategy Director and above). It aims to show them how to increase their sphere of influence for their brands, their agencies and themselves.

It will help senior strategists to reframe and reinvent their role and extend their reach when they feel their impact is boxed in by narrower definitions of the role.

Craig and Bridget will share their unique experience as senior agency CSOs and for the last 5 years running a successful strategy business working directly with clients.  The format is a series of 4 training sessions with guest speakers and provocateurs.

There will be be plenty of opportunity for broader discussion, to take part in group exercises and hear from and question strategic ‘provocateurs’.

What will you learn?

The course is intended to be practical. You will learn new ways of working that you can implement at work in the short and longer term.

You will learn new approaches and experience a significant shift in your confidence to act and direct the thinking in your agency.

What does the programme consist of?

Session 1:

Strategy influence past, present and future - with Richard Huntington, Feral

This is about diagnosis, and thinking about new ways of influencing. We will define creative strategy, work out the antecedents to current working practices, and start to define a more effective and ideal way of working.

Richard Huntington, former Saatchi CSO and Chair and now Founder of Feral Strategy will speak and take questions.

Session 2:

New model strategy and what clients want.

In this session we will concentrate on what’s happening outside agencies and with clients, and start to map out new potential and ways to increase influence.

There will be a senior client guest speaker who has also had experience planning in agencies

Session 3:

Delivering influential strategy in a modern agency - with Jo Arden, AMV BBDO and Tom Roach, Jellyfish

This session delves into the dynamics of strategy in an agency business and offers a practical guide to change. What are the levers and barriers? What shifts can you make in the way you operate?

We will hear from current APG co-Chairs Jo Arden of AMV and Tom Roach of Jellyfish, about what they want from senior strats in their very different agency businesses

Session 4:

How to Build Your Influence and define the changes we need to make to shape the discipline for the future

This is a unique, sleeves-rolled-up session where we bring together all the inputs from the previous weeks to build a practical guide together, dedicated to helping all strategists grow and extend their influence. Each delegate will then leave with a tangible output to share with their colleagues, their agency, and ultimately the strategy discipline as a whole.

Who is it for?

Planners and Strategists at Strategy Director level and above.
